| A very special project indeed, the entire cabinet is made of wood and nothing else, except for the hinges. The wood used is Pitch Pine, which is sawed differently for the various parts. Quarter sawn for the panels and plain sawn for the stiles and rails. Quarter sawn wood is sawn radial out of the lumber and has a finer, more symmetric type of texture. More importantly, it will virtually not work. This very important in constructions such as the wood panels in this cabinet. Plain sawn wood is more or less sawn parallel to the outside of the tree and it has a far more lush type of texture. The combination of these different textures in conjunction with a well-balanced design makes for a timeless yet fascinating cabinet. |
